Somewhere around 1 hour 20, this episode seems to switch over to a previous episode from earlier in 2023. I have definetely heard the discussion of poetry and rice cookers before.

the shirt with ‘no solutions only tradeoffs’ is a thomas sowell quote – or at least he uses it. pretty interesting guy, i think you’d enjoy his writings/talks.

also not sure on your dosing of ezetimibe, but you can really reduce the dosing and get very similar results. i think in the pharmacy times journal they published 1mg/day vs 10mg a day you get majority of return, and 2.5mg/day vs 10mg you get the same. (i see good results adjusting their protocol a bit with 10mg twice a wk)

Big fan of the pod here. Thanks for putting such great content out. (“Tim Ferriss Team”, if you don’t mind passing this message along to Tim, I have a feeling he would appreciate it).

As a dog-lover myself, his comments about Molly during this episode made me think about sharing this piece of information. My 7-year old French Bulldog was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive type of stage-2 Hemangiosarcoma, and was given about 4-6mo, if gone through chemo. He is now getting close to his 1-year mark (this coming January), and with no signs of cancer or metastasis anywhere. We’ve been giving him Rapamycin 1x/day, 4d/week, and it seems like it’s working (following what this clinical study is trying to prove: https://www.ethosdiscovery.org/clinical-study/ethos-precision-medicine-umbrella-study-for-hemangiosarcoma-epush/).

Separately, there’s a new drug being tested for dog longevity that also affects the IGF-1 pathway (https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/a-new-drug-that-could-extend-dogs-lives-inches-closer-to-approval-180983331/). Particularly for larger dogs, it seems like it could help increase the lifespan.

I hope this could be helpful in giving Molly a few more years of healthy life =]

Cheers,
Diego

I recently bought AG1 based on recommendations from this podcast. I personally didn’t like the taste so thought little more of it. Until I realised I had signed up for a subscription. I contacted them to cancel my subscription going forward. Customer was excellent and cancelled it straight.

Next time I checked my account I had received a refund for my initial order. I in no way deserved this refund, as a future customer I offered them no value but they still did this without me asking for it.

Too often companies receive complaints for doing the smallest thing wrong, just felt a flag of doing something so right is deserved.

I took a month off of caffeine after reading This is Your Mind on Plants and had some strong coffee coming back on and it was the sole cause/heavy contributor to a panic attack. People definitely underestimate its power as a substance. If I were wagering on an episode Tim were off the sauce, it’d be 711 w/ Andrew Rosener. I think Tim nailed it when he said he was more calm and not flying from caffeine, or something to that effect. It’s a nice drug that you miss the comradery of when abstaining, similar to booze. No cafes? No bars? Happy to hear the back pain is getting better, hope you’ve bounced back from a difficult trip. Heartbreak is intense, but equally enlightening and beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Cockpunch 2024!

Thanks for another one of these.

Currently, I also have back pain and am revisiting the illness-to-trauma list I mentioned once before (I think it was on the episode with Gabor Mate) to see if it could have an emotional reason. It says: “(feeling) insignificant or not being valued, guilt, failure. especially feeling insignificance in relation to having to stay alone, not feeling support/help, feeling left alone.” Will have to meditate on this for a bit. Or maybe I have caught Covid a second time.

Wishing all a healthy and happy year and peace to enjoy both.

Tim (and Kevin) – there’s a rational and philosophical counter position to your Attia driven hyper-medicalized view of self-optimization. Just for balance, and education, you should read Petr Skrabanek’s classic, “The Death of Humane Medicine… and the rise of coercive healthism”.

There are no solutions, only trade-offs. Thomas Sowell. You should get him on your podcast.

Team Tim Ferris, I thought I’d share the below with this audience, and if you don’t mind passing it along to Tim, I believe he would appreciate it too.

Hearing Tim’s comments about Molly made me want to share my current experience with my own dog, a Frenchie named Sumo. He was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma about 11 months ago, and was given anywhere between 3 to 5 months, based on the evolution and aggressiveness of such cancer. We went through chemo, and since then, we’ve been given him 4x/week a daily dosage of Rapamycin. After researching a lot about it, and seeing some recent clinical trials on life extension for dogs (specially large ones), I thought it would be worth highlighting it for Molly herself. This is no clinical or medical advice, but there are some promising studies being conducted as we speak.

Cheers,
Diego

Hey Tim,
Somewhat related experience you may be interested in.

I’m a person with an extremely bad back, had surgery has a teenager and just consider severe back pain a part of life.

Was travelling around in my car and some very weird circumstances one day that led to me sleeping in my vehicle, and it caused me to have some extreme pain that wasn’t going away.

I believe it was 3 days later, I was back home and decided to take a (unsupervised/illicit) psilocybin dose.

During the trip, there was a point where I felt compelled to go to my pull-up bar to stretch my back. I went to grab it as I usually would, then immediately lost control of my body, and I watched and felt as my “physical self” did a bunch of
strange, dynamic movements and flexing between deep relaxation and extreme muscle tension. It ended by my hands letting go of the bar, and then I hopped in place three times.

I was pretty freaked out since I had never had any experience where I lost complete control of my body before then, but after a few minutes and calming down I realized the persistent back pain from sleeping in my car was gone and it felt really good overall compared to my normal levels of pain.

Kind of a strange story but hopefully you can gain something from it even if it’s just a laugh.

Thanks for all the content.

Tim & Kevin, this was such a beautiful episode! Thank you for being so open. Tim, I found the part describing the pain and release during your Ayahuasca trip particularly moving. So sorry to hear about the break up. Our bodies definitely keep a score but are stronger and more resilient than we believe. Wishing a bright new year full of possibilities!

Tim, your story of how you came across Lalo tequila resonated with me. There’s an awesome local distillery in Oklahoma City – Woodworks Distilling Company. They make the most pure, no additives, smooth, heavenly vodka and gin. Their bourbon and whiskey are great, I think, they are just not my drink of choice. They are not licensed to sell in TX but you should check them out. This is not a sales pitch. I am not affiliated with them in any way except for being a devoted customer. I wish I had the capital to invest but I don’t. I’m am just such a fan and want to get their name out. And they have a really cool mission and vision – it’s not about selling alcohol it’s a about the story you tell with every sip.

Tim, thank you for sharing your back pain-release experience and discovery of John Sarno. Beyond happy you have this relief. Since Dr. Sarno, the world has moved on and there is quite a bit new and published. I encourage you (and everyone else) to look up the “Boulder back pain study.” Resulting from that are things like the Curable app and the book “The Way Out” by Alan Gordon, one of the practitioners in the study. Also, Dr. Howard Schubiner and “Unlearn Your Pain.” Point being, “neuro-plastic pain” (or one its many other names) is turning out to be a treatable and even curable thing. I’ve certainly experienced improvement in unrelenting chronic pain of 19+ years with these methods. See what Andrew Huberman makes of this! Best to you and everyone with experience on this front.

I really enjoy how straightforward the UX of The Way app is. Other meditation apps are too bloated, and I’m delighted that The Way is striving to be like The Oak. Minimalistic and easy to use, with a clear path to follow. Keep it going Henry, Kevin and the team!

So many struggle with chronic lower back pain, but the “find-it-and-fix-it” approach is one of the past. The interdependence of the bio-psycho-social contributors is a better path to long term resolution. Movement is still key, but through novelty, variability and removing mechanical stressors from the body. We would love to send Tim a [Moderator: product mention redacted from comments but preserved in intake fields] to help him with his challenges.
