Welcome to another episode of The Tim Ferriss Show, where it is usually my job to sit down with world-class performers of all different types to tease out the habits, routines, favorite books, and so on that you can apply and test in your own life.

This time, we have a very special episode I recorded with my close friend Kevin Rose at SXSW in Austin, Texas!

This week is officially the podcast’s 10-year anniversary, and there is no better way to commemorate such a wild milestone than with Kevin Rose and a little tequila. As many listeners know, Kevin was my very first guest for episode 1, way back in April 2014.

Who is Kevin Rose? Kevin (@kevinrose) is a partner at True Ventures, an early-stage venture-capital firm that has invested more than $3.8 billion in a portfolio of more than 350 companies. He also hosts The Kevin Rose Show, which offers glimpses of the future into investing, artificial intelligence, wellness, and culture, featuring conversations with experts at the vanguard of their fields.

In this episode, we discuss the dangers of audience capture, novel mental-health treatments, modern dating, Ozempic, time dilation, Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul, and much, much more.

Please enjoy!

Hi, have you ever talked to in MBA course? It is not really an interview or a speaking, so I thought to give it a try. Marco

Tim,
I’m trying to follow instructions on how contact you via your blog. I just listened to a podcast interview with a brilliant psychiatrist who convincingly argues that many psychiatric problems are really mast cell flare ups (MCAS – Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) in the brain. These mast cell flare ups are well known to cause physical problems throughout the body but this is the first time I’ve heard them get connected with psychiatric episodes. With all your work on mental health, I’m convinced you would find the podcast fascinating. It’s an interview on Spotify with Dr. Janet Settle on the podcast Mast Cell Matters, dated December 5, 2023. I have no connection to her and am only hoping you can spread the word.

Happy 10 years Tim and many thanks.

I bought the 4-hour work week in 2008 when I was an avid daily reader. Years later in 2017, I was a stay-at-home mother playing with my lovely 1 and 3 year old kids each day, struggling to have time to read books longer than 10 thick non-rippable cardboard pages. I was super lucky to be spending so much time with my children, but I was also starving for mental stimulation and a bit lonely for adult company. Then the world of podcasts came to my attention and with it your name, which I recognised from my dusty neglected bookcase. Since then, you have kept me company (and sane) on many a drive or walk, or while hanging out laundry three times a day. I don’t listen religiously, I certainly haven’t listened to them all but I have enjoyed many. Neil Gaiman was a highlight, as was your introduction to Dr Peter Attia years ago, whose podcast I still enjoy from time to time. Just the other week you introduced me to Hugh Howey, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading Wool this last month (with the kids being older I do get time to read content and not just listen).

Despite the podcast landscape being intensely crowded now, while I do listen to others, I still like what you do. I like that I never feel angry or annoyed at the world after listening to your podcasts. While topical issues are important I find too much of that isn’t great for one’s mental state. I like that somewhere in your episode list I can usually find something fascinating to get me through a long drive (of which I do many). I mean I didn’t know Scott Glenn’s name until your podcast, but I certainly knew the face, and what a fascinating life. When I choose to listen to a podcast with a guest I have never heard of I think it’s about trust. It’s that I trust that if you find this person interesting then it’s likely I will too.

You have mentioned a few times about the trend towards video content. I don’t completely understand it. I love listening to audiobooks and podcasts, particularly long-form deep high-quality conversations. I am never just sitting around listening to a podcast. I am driving (lots of driving), walking the dog, cleaning, cooking, mowing the lawn, painting the bathroom … whatever. I am primarily an audio content consumer, I am not into YouTube unless I am learning how to mix concrete, fix a hole in a plasterboard wall or change the blade on the mower.

So congrats on a wonderful ten years of great intelligent interesting and mentally stimulating audio content. You will always have my thanks for keeping me sane.

Hi Tim,
I am following your contact instructions and posting here. I am a former post-doc of Nolan, and a physician-scientist working with some people you know. I am running a very innovative SAINT clinical trial. I am contacting you to see if you are interested in getting involved and expanding the trial which would surely contribute to its impact.
Thanks for all you do!

Hi S.O. I’m interested in this clinical trial. I’m caregiver for my father who has drug resistant bipolar depression. How can I get in touch with you ?

What was the name of the archery youtube channel you mentioned? I was looking for it in the show notes but can’t seem to find it.

Tim, we are currently running four SAINT clinical trials at UT Austin (it’s not just Stanford!). I am wondering if you are interested in supporting further SAINT trials and accelerated theta burst generally at UT Austin? With a little extra support, we could transform the entire field! Thanks.

Coyote

A card game by Tim Ferriss and Exploding Kittens

COYOTE is an addictive card game of hilarity, high-fives, and havoc! Learn it in minutes, and each game lasts around 10 minutes.

For ages 10 and up (though I’ve seen six-year olds play) and three or more players, think of it as group rock, paper, scissors with many surprise twists, including the ability to sabotage other players. Viral videos of COYOTE have been watched more than 250 million times, and it’s just getting started.

Unleash your trickster spirit with a game that’s simple to learn, hard to master, and delightfully different every time you play. May the wit and wiles be with you!

Keep exploring.
