The Random Show — Ketones for Cognition, Tim’s Best Lab Results in 10+ Years, How Kevin Hit 100 Days Sober, Home Defense, Vibe Coding Unleashed, and More

This episode is brought to you by AG1! I get asked all the time, “If you could use only one supplement, what would it be?” My answer is usually AG1, my all-in-one nutritional insurance. I recommended it in The 4-Hour Body in 2010 and did not get paid to do so. Right now, get a FREE Welcome Kit, including Vitamin D3+K2 and AG1 Travel Packs, when you first subscribe. Visit DrinkAG1.com/Tim to claim this special offer today and receive your 1-year supply of Vitamin D—a vital nutrient for a strong immune system and strong bones!

This episode is brought to you by David Protein Bars! I’m always on the hunt for protein sources that don’t require sacrifices in taste or nutrition. That’s why I love the protein bars from David. With David protein bars, you get the fewest calories for the most protein, ever. David has 28g of protein, 150 calories, and 0g of sugar. Their bars come in six delicious flavors, all worth trying, and I’ll often throw them in my bag for protein on the go. And now, listeners of The Tim Ferriss Show who buy four boxes get a fifth box for free. Try them for yourself at DavidProtein.com/Tim.

This episode is brought to you by Momentous high-quality creatine! I’ve long benefitted from creatine for athletic and gym performance, and now I’m increasing my daily intake to enjoy the cognitive benefits. A pilot study in Alzheimer’s patients demonstrated that supplementing can increase brain creatine levels in just 8 weeks, improving measures of memory, reasoning, and attention. And a double-blind, placebo-controlled study found that creatine can restore aspects of memory and attention within hours in adults who are sleep deprived. I use Momentous Creatine made with Creapure®, which is sourced from Germany and has the strictest lab standards to ensure it’s at least 99.9% pure. And try Momentous’s Creatine Chews—clean chewable tablets with 1 gram of Creapure® creatine per chew—and their whey protein isolate and magnesium threonate, all of which meet their same, exacting standards. Check out Momentous for yourself and get 35% off your first subscription order with code TIM at LiveMomentous.com/Tim

Want to hear the last time KevKev and I did one of these Random Shows? Listen to our conversation here in which we discussed maintaining sobriety with a partner who still drinks, Taiwanese tea, finding magic in the ordinary, the ups and downs of accelerated TMS, the intersection of AI and life sciences, deepfaked side hustlers, when meditation retreats go right (and wrong), and much more.

Hey, I get this isn’t the ideal place to get in touch, but I had the impulse to talk about my faith here. I know you guys aren’t militant atheists or anything but I also know you’re not religious….

I’m sure the supplement stacks are going great and I’m honestly grateful for both of your exploration into how to be as healthy as you can be and sharing that with the world.

Having said that I think you underestimate what truly believing that there’s an all powerful being that loves you unconditionally and an eternity after this life—can do for your health. I’m sure it has an incredible effect on my nervous system and by extension all my bodily systems.

I know at least Tim has said he just can’t get there—but talk about a weight lifted off if you could.

Hi Tim,

I first read The 4-Hour Workweek years ago—probably a dozen times between the hardcover and audiobook—and it changed the trajectory of my life. I left a large law firm, started my own practice, and eventually ran for (and won) elected office in my state legislature. The concepts you introduced helped me make massive changes that have been a gift not just to me, but also to my family and community.

I was a daily listener of your podcast years ago, drifted away for a while, and have recently returned. Now I listen while running on the treadmill. It’s as fresh and inspiring as ever—thank you for keeping it alive and true to the original vision.

My question:
From the early days of The 4-Hour Workweek and The 4-Hour Body to where you are now in 2025, have you ever shared a retrospective on how your ideas have evolved? I’d love to hear what’s stayed constant and what’s changed as science, technology, and your own perspective have advanced.

If you’ve addressed this in a blog post, podcast, or other format, I’d be grateful for a pointer. And if not, I think many of us longtime readers would find it valuable to see the through-line of your journey.

Thanks again for all that you’ve created.

Curious to know what Tim consumes outside of the 8-hour window. Ketones? Supplements? Forms of hydration?

Hey, Tim! My family and I played Coyote on the Land Rover at Londolozi with our ranger, Jess, and tracker, Advice. It was a huge hit. Want to see a video of us cracking up during our sundowner? Let me know and I’ll post it and share the link with you.

We ended up leaving the game with them as a thank you because they loved it so much.
So now there is a Coyote game in the ranger station at Londolozi.

Let me know.

Coyote

A card game by Tim Ferriss and Exploding Kittens

COYOTE is an addictive card game of hilarity, high-fives, and havoc! Learn it in minutes, and each game lasts around 10 minutes.

For ages 10 and up (though I’ve seen six-year olds play) and three or more players, think of it as group rock, paper, scissors with many surprise twists, including the ability to sabotage other players. Viral videos of COYOTE have been watched more than 250 million times, and it’s just getting started.

Unleash your trickster spirit with a game that’s simple to learn, hard to master, and delightfully different every time you play. May the wit and wiles be with you!

Keep exploring.
