Hello lads and lasses. This post is intended as a morsel, a sugar high and respite. Life is serious enough, so this post will require zero calories of brain power.
Not to worry, of course, as we’ll be back to our regular content with the next how-to post.
In the meantime, some goodies: the “Kimono” winners and a $1,000 travel voucher giveaway.
KIMONO SPOTS
Congratulations, after much tallying and consideration, to the winners of the $10,000 spots to the “Opening the Kimono” event! Please keep an eye on your inbox for follow-up details:

First, sincere thanks to all who submitted video case studies, even those who re-submitted old videos and therefore weren’t eligible. Second, HUGE thanks to Dustin “America’s Trainer to the Moms” Maher for making the “wild card” scholarship possible — you rock!
Three honorable mentions for the “wild card” seat are below (out of dozens of great videos), and one includes a pic of me drunk at my London book launch. Oh, Internet, you hurt so good T_T
Two of them highlight post-4-Hour Workweek (now 2,172 reviews!) travel adventures:

I will go to Kyoto Japan and watch the cherry blossoms.
I’d go to Japan. I’ve been there once but a lot has changed since then. I want to take my family with me and show them all the places I saw and things I did.
I’d take my husband and visit our friends in Germany (who we keep telling we’re going to visit really soon) and go with them to Oktoberfest!
I’d take a few days in San Fransisco: try and do some mobility work with Kelly Starrett and the good folks at CFSF, visit a couple of old friends, take a zeppelin cruise, check out the Palace of Fine Arts and generally soak it all in.
I would go back to Florianopolis, Brazil and learn how to surf from Hans at Nexus Surt and then go back to Rio de Janeiro and actually get to jump off the mountain and go hang gliding. Bad wind conditions killed my last attempt. While there I would use your language learning techniques to take my Portuguese from conversational to 95% fluent.
Maui for sure! There some hiking in a bamboo forest, and sitting in the pools underneath the waterfall at Twin Falls. Makes me feel more peaceful just thinking about it…
BEWARE This is not an authorized offer and the Travelocity Voucher is not real. From Travelocity Gift Cards Team
I will go to Australia and visit the Outback to see where my blue tongue skinks are from.
Definitely Venice.
Tim,
Great idea!
Thailand for a one month sailing sabatical!
Jeff
I would find my way back to Turkey and travel the streets like I did as a student there.
Maui, my second home, for some much needed fun in the sun, sea, biking, canoeing, boogie boarding, and lots more.
Norway; the northern part. There I will charge boldly through frostiness and bond with long lost relatives. Also crazily chase reindeer.
If I win, I would go for a road trip in south-east asia.
I would head to Tibet!
I will return to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; I left my heart there with a carioca. 😉
I would go to the Philippines with my wife and baby girl (who have never been) to visit family, see the sights, and maybe find some new VAs.
I would take my 13 year old daughter on a volunteering trip. Location could be any where. It would be more about the “need” than location. Could be a children s hospital in Argentina or in a low income community in the Appalachian mountains. Spending time with her , helping others and teaching her compassion and life isn’t about your hair, make up, mtv and for God sakes, Jersey Shore. It would be a win – win. Thank you so much.
I will go to Iceland to visit two dear friends, enjoy the nightlife, and relax in the hotsprings.
Madrid Spain! Coming to visit you Steli!!
Thanks Tim for all of your great info, keep it up!
I will use the Travelocity voucher for a trip to Rio to go hangliding!
If I win, I’ll take my husband to the Maldives! It may not be there when we retire!
I’d go to the coast of Spain to visit my Uncle and take in the culture.
The Land of Chocolate, obviously! Wait… what do you mean, it’s not real? It’s Cheat Day! I thought I could go wherever I wanted?!
I will travel to Central America (Costa Rica and Panama) to reactivate my Spanish skills!
I’d go to England and visit with college friends.
If I win this voucher I want to go to Thailand. For a bit of scuba, but more importantly to pet a tiger.
I’ll use it to park myself in the south of France for a month for some needed r&r!
I would love to use the voucher to be able to take my sons to see some of the wonders that I have enjoyed in Costa Rica. It’s not every day you get to hike through the jungle to the base of an active volcano at night! Living an adventure instead of looking that them on flickering pixels!
Tim-Paris, France. First time for me; return visit for my wife and stepdaughter. The latter has been pining for a second visit since returning from her 1st 3 months ago or so. Would love to make that happen for her!
After reading your book and doing some research, I really want to go to South America. Not sure exactly where yet. All over. 🙂
I’d got to Thailand or Singapore and live like a king for a couple weeks. While there, I plan on roaming the cities and trying tons of different food. Another option would be going to Spain to visit a close friend and to brush up on Spanish.
When it came down to it though, I’d got to Argentina and learn real tango, hone my Spanish, eat great food, and meet the beautiful women down there. I would consider stopping in Chile to meet the people from Start Up Chile.
If I win I will spend a few months getting in better shape (with 4HB of course) then bike through Italy. I studied there and I’d love to return! It will be a great series for the travel blog I’m currently working on too.
Thanks for this great opportunity Tim!
I would use the money to visit places in Pennsylvania that were part of my childhood so I could go back and take pictures to use in a Childrens Book Series I am currently writing. Working on my muse!
I would go to Ibiza, Barcelona & Madrid!!!
I will go to Italy with my sister for my birthday next year!!!
Egypt to see the pyramids…the one thing in this world I have promised myself I will see at some point in my life…then maybe to Sicily to find my families origins…
I have no idea where I would go – I’d look for a last-minute deal to somewhere interesting that I’ve never been. I would show up with no itinerary and go exploring!
Vegas or Palm Springs, anywhere where the sun is hot and a pool is nearby.
Argentina!!!
I will go to Japan and learn Kendama.
I’d be taking an introspective trip to India, a last hurrah before my upcoming years of school.
I will visit Tokyo. – I would do the typical tourist stuff. shopping. shooting photos.
I recently fractured my foot kickboxing and haven’t been able to exercise properly for 2 months so I’d love to go anywhere on my bucket list that involves exercise and adventure (but, as per usual, won’t decide until the last minute)! Surfing in Costa Rica, snorkeling in Bali, or exploring the beauty of Belize.
I also started the Slow Carb diet this week to get rid of the bit of weight I gained while injured (today is my day off :)) and would love to be able to show off my 30 day success on the beach!
will be visiting tokyo. shopping and traveling.
If I win, I’m going to London to practice photography and see some English theater.
If I win I’m going to go New Zealand and spend as much time hiking and going to the beach as I can. Then visit one of my best friends in Melbourne Australia.
I’ve always wanted to check out north Africa. Ideally spend about a week traveling through Egypt, maybe take an excursion down the Nile looking at the various ruins as I go. After that, catch a quick flight over to Morocco. Do a little lounging around the sea before jumping across to Spain. Catch a soccer game in Madrid… and maybe even run with the bulls.
I’d use the voucher to help pay for a ticket to SE Asia where I would backpack through Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.
My parents had me instead of going on their dream trip to Australia. I would take them there!
I’ll go to Montreal and Quebec City. My late husband spent some time in Montreal for fly training when he was in the Army. He knew how much I liked both architecture, nature and food! that would be the perfect place for me, he said. We wanted to drive up there with our travel trailer and spend a couple of weeks. We planned for years and had finally decided on going on the summer of 2009, but during the fall of 2008 he was diagnosed with ALS. By June of 2009, he had died. Going to Montreal would be both my husband’s and my dream.
Japan: climb Mt. Fuji for sunrise.
This comes at a perfect time. I’ve been in a long distance relationship with my fiance who lives in Taipei, Taiwan for 2.5 years now. We’ve been physically together for 12 months and the other 18 months or so we’ve had to be apart. Finally she will be coming later this summer on a fiance visa and we’ll get married in October!
Well after we get married we can’t leave the country cause of her visa. So we’ll have to honeymoon in the US and we thought Hawaii would be perfect. We’ve both never been.
We will definitely enjoy the beach, the blue waters, and see the beautiful sights of the many islands of Hawaii! Not having to be apart anymore is the best gift. The second best would be if we won the $1,000 voucher.
Tokyo. eating ramen in shibuya.
I will jet to a couple of locations where introspection and calm reins. I realize we can only find that from within but being present where it is actually their religion would be quite restful and enlightening. Maybe come back a better person.
Travel to Boston and Philadelphia and record videos at historic sites for my students and to build my educational video muse/business.
If I win, I’ll fulfill a life long dream of going to Australia and visit Sydney and Melbourne. I’ll probably couch surf for a full month, go on adventures, get lost, make random friends, network, learn how to surf, etc. I think the best plan is to not have a plan and figure it out when you get there.
PS – Thanks for turning me on to PunchTab! I’m going to try using this for my site.
I would go to New Zealand to visit my friends band and snowboard during the “summer”!
I’d use the travel voucher to thru hike the Appalachian Trail by myself. Springer Mountain Georgia all the way to Katahdin Maine! I’d take a small voice recorder to record thoughts, ideas, lyrics, and melodies to my next album that will be recorded when I get back. I think this would be an amazing exercise in solitude and simplicity.
Neat, have you read Bill Bryson’s book, “A Walk in the Woods”?
Part of me wants to say Paris or Switzerland or Bermuda or Australia or Venice but I know that the plane tickets would eat up most of the $1000 on those.
So realistically I would probably use it for multiple shorter distance trips. Maybe go to one of the Carolina’s, Florida or Texas. Definitely try and get something in where surfing would be involved.
Kuau’i. Learn to surf and hike the Na’pali Coast. And be the hippie I want to be.
I’d go to Barbados, where I was married two years ago, to visit with friends and have a much needed relaxation time out with my husband.
Spain is next on the list.
go to Venice and wander mindlessly in the twisty little calle’s at ungodly hours
I’ll go to New Zealand join an old friend!
If I won, I would travel to Vietnam to visit my relatives there and take them out for meals and go out and have fun together. I haven’t seen them for so long. This would be a great opportunity. : )
Brazil!
I would go to Greece, visit history, gather inspiration, and swim in the Mediterranean!
If I win I will use the voucher for a trip to Ireland. There is an event there I want to attend and this will make it possible.
I would go to Australia with my wife and kids.
If i win this I will take my two sons on a much deserved holiday to Trinidad after years of doing without living with their broke ass single mom! 😀
Berlin, Germany to see my best friend.
S
I am heading to Germany for a month!
I would take my mom and brother to Alaska to see the aurora borealis
I would take my kids to finally meet their family in Argentina. I miss Buenos Aires so much it hurts…12 years and counting…
I would go to Brazil and explore the Amazon and surrounding areas that have a great legacy of healers
I love things that are too good to be true and ARE true!
I would love to return to The Philippines, it’s been almost 20 years since I have been there.
I’d go to Scandinavia and check out the Midnight Sun!
I want to take my wife to Argentina. We were both asked recently where we’d go the next day if we had the money, and Argentina was her #1 choice. That surprised me! Mine, South Africa. The wife always wins… Argentina here we come!
I would go to Egypt to see the pyramids — a dream of my father’s that he never got to experience.
If I were to win I would be heading on to South East Asia. So far since reading the 4HWW in 2008, I’ve started my own online muse and traveled through both South America and Europe. South East Asia is the next destination for yet another mini retirement:)
I’ll to go the best kept secret in North America..Cortes Island, British Columbia. I’d go to the retreat center Hollyhock for a week long workshop hosted by Bruce Lipton.
If I win, I will take my 84 year-old grandmother to Odessa, Ukraine to finally visit the area where her father grew up prior to World War I.
Hey Tim,
Are you anyway affiliated with http://www.airbnb.com/ If not Punjab seems like a good match for them!
I’d go to Denmark with my wife and visit friends
I would <3 to use this toward teaching ESL in South Korea. It would make saving money and paying off my loans 100x easier.
Somewhere in the Amazon…
I would travel to Greece! I’d love to see the ancient ruins and the scenery.
Family vacation to Hawaii to go island hopping and spend some much needed time on the beach.
I’m currently working in Antarctica and would use the voucher to go to Koh Tao, Thailand to become a PADI certified Master Diver. A wonderful next step in my having a great, adventurous life!!
Go to South Korea. Learn Hapkido
I would take my first trip out fo the country. I think my favorite idea would be to hike through Japan and practice my Zazen.
i’d hit up Whistler for some skiing next winter.
have to ask a dumb question. can someone tell me how to add a picture to my post? i set up a Gravatar account, but still not sure how to include it on my posts?
thanks!
Hi Jeremy,
Just make sure you’re using the same email address in your comment that you used when you set up your Gravatar, that’s what makes the connection.
When I win I’m going to Japan and creating a lookbook of every sight that captures my fancy.
I would go to the Philippines to visit some friends who moved there a while back.
Where will I go?
Galapagos Island and Australia.
My wife and I are newly married and expecting our first child. she has been a fishermens daughter all her life and never travelled. I, by the good graces of an Aunt who love me, have travelled a little bit around the world and fallen in love with travel.
I want to take my wife to experience the world and these two areas are the highest on our list.
We now have dear friends who we have come to know initially through facebook and many of them have ministries that minister to the needs of those who have been involved or abused through human trafficking and prostitution/drug abuse. We would love to be able to go and minister alongside them for a period of time.
I would go on a trip to Turkey and visit the places where my parents grew up.
While I’ve wanted to go to Russia from the first time I finished a Tom Clancy book (“Hunt for Red October”; late eighties) and would love to visit Red Square, the Kremlin, Bunker-42 and Lubyanka…I’m thinking Oktoberfest. 🙂
While Oktoberfest alone I suspect would be an absolute 2-week blast, I’d like to see some of the European countryside, as well. So I’m thinking a trip to Munich for a few days of beer, food, beer, music and beer, then hitting the train for a couple of days to let my liver recover and my mind take in a relaxing trip to Luxembourg or Paris or Zurich before flying home. Or maybe that in reverse. Itinerary: flexible.
Regardless, I’d expect to come back content with about a billion pictures, a few new stamps in the ol’ passport and a new appreciation for how beer is _supposed_ to be.
If I win I’m gong to Hawaii. I’ve never been and living in California I’m running out of excuses for not having been there yet. If possible I’ll also take my 15 y/o boy who has never been anywhere.
I would take my husband Carter B to visit where I used to live in Chile. On the tail end of the trip after visiting the Atacama desert, we would hop over to Peru to visit Machu Picchu and the Nazca lines. If he wins, we will be off to Israel. Either would be fantastic!
