Hello lads and lasses. This post is intended as a morsel, a sugar high and respite. Life is serious enough, so this post will require zero calories of brain power.
Not to worry, of course, as we’ll be back to our regular content with the next how-to post.
In the meantime, some goodies: the “Kimono” winners and a $1,000 travel voucher giveaway.
KIMONO SPOTS
Congratulations, after much tallying and consideration, to the winners of the $10,000 spots to the “Opening the Kimono” event! Please keep an eye on your inbox for follow-up details:
– Sheila McCarthy (votes)
– Jacqueline Biggs (“wild card” views)
First, sincere thanks to all who submitted video case studies, even those who re-submitted old videos and therefore weren’t eligible. Second, HUGE thanks to Dustin “America’s Trainer to the Moms” Maher for making the “wild card” scholarship possible — you rock!
Three honorable mentions for the “wild card” seat are below (out of dozens of great videos), and one includes a pic of me drunk at my London book launch. Oh, Internet, you hurt so good T_T
Two of them highlight post-4-Hour Workweek (now 2,172 reviews!) travel adventures:

Barcelona, Spain for the food, wine and lifestyle
After reading 4HWW for the first time, I decided I would make a plan to visit the Greece monasteries. I am not a religions man, but there is something about these places that holds a childish fascination to me. The Holy Monastery of Rousanou/St. Barbara is the single place on this Earth that I would travel to if I was ever given one and only one opportunity to travel across the world.
I would go to Egypt to get a feel of what’s going on there. I have a goal of going to all the continents and I have never been to Africa.
Seattle. It’d be pretty awesome to attend the Child’s Play charity auction.
Hey Tim,
If I win, I would love to go to Brazil with my 6 1/2 year old daughter. We saw the movie, Rio, a couple of weeks ago and she said, “Mom, I want to go there!” I already had the travel bug but it was the first time my girl expressed it. Very exciting! As for what we would do: I would love to teach her how to body surf, connect with the kids, taste new spices and food and feel the thrill of being in a different culture and loving it! And of course, we would have to pay a visit to Christ the Redeemer (it’s on my must-see list).
Thanks for the opportunity,
Stephanie
I would love to go to Greece, and sail around the islands. That would be incredible. It is definitely on my bucket list.
Uh, the rules have June 31, 2011 as the end date of the contest. Thirty days hath September, April, JUNE and November…might want to fix that!
I will be heading to Costa Rica. Roca Bruja and Ollie’s Point are calling my name.
I would go to Ireland with my fiancee and we will photograph everything!
I would go to Turkey with my son instead of just sending him alone. I would visit family do some tours and really relax….
Aylmer, Quebec. Best poutine ever.
I would go meet my Dad in London since it’s always been a dream of his to take me on a tour. (He’s lived in Europe since I was 9 years old – I’ve never left the states in all my 27 years- sad, but true. Gonna break that soon.)
If I win the $1,000 travelocity gift card giveaway I’m flying to europe to compete in an adventure race and live it up!
I’d head to the mountains of Mexico. I live in Cleveland and while we are here in the midst of summer, come October/November the days grow short and the clouds get gloomy. My wife and I finally figured out that I am strongly affected by SAD. Wintering on the plains of Colorado a couple of years ago proved the theory. This year I’m planning on Mexico…the biggest expense, of course, is getting there by air. This would make all the difference, doncha know.
Thanks for the chance.
Headed out to Korea to see my girl!!
I would go to Melbourne, Australia. Probably stay there for 6-months or so and learn how to kite-board — something I’ve always wanted to do!
I would go to Ireland!
I will go to India with my wife. Great food, beautiful sights, and rich history!
I am currently saving up to go to Yosemite, it’s the LAST National Park on my list! I’ve been saving up to spend a couple of weeks in the park with my camera and my journal to bring myself back to centerdness!
If I win, I’d go on a cross country road trip with my family.
I’d take the the $1,000 and put it towards a ticket to Mongolia. I’m planning a solo expedition there for 2012 to ride my bicycle across part of the Gobi desert. I’m super stoked about doing something physically and emotionally challenging.
I’ll head to Jakarta with my brother, so we can start up a travel blog. He’s a great photographer, and I love to write, so it would be perfect.
I’d take my fam to Costa Rica for a month. Rent a house on AirBnB, learn how to surf, and get my kids immersed in a little Spanish.
hahaha Tim my apologies re: drunk pic but you knew it would surface some day 😛
What we need now is footage of you downing 2010 Argentinian Vintage in Wine County like a dry man in the desert, correct?
Congrats to contestants, there were really some awesome finalist submissions. As a somewhat private person in real life I know how it’s like to put your face out there and push your comfort zone to make something like this. It certainly pushed mine…
The real challenge was finding out about the contest for the first time only 48 hours prior to deadline and meeting the 2k view counts to even be eligible LOL (barely!). I knew this particular video wasn’t going to win based on view count alone, but I did it anyway to challenge myself and also learned a few new things on video marketing, so it was still worth it…
In the last few hours of the post going up I’ve received a few emails asking how I got started. So here’s the original unlisted and unedited version I made that explains more of my story, exclusive for 4HWW fans:
http://bit.ly/mN6rxB
This was never previously published because it was a little long for the purposes of this contest, but it does go a little more into my background and how I began…
Thank you for the honorable mention (despite the photo LOL). I’m sure it’s going to be a great event. Wish I could be there, but will have to just live vicariously through you other lucky buggers 😉
cheers
Vince
I will go to Mexico and drink and eat everything.
I would go to London to visit the Queen. Maybe frighten a little mouse under her chair.
I would go to New York and eat amazing food with my cousin Corinne. Oh, also, I want to go to some zoos >_>
I’d take my wife to New Zealand, go white water rafting and see if she’ll bunji jump (even though I, surely, will not 😉 ).
I will be going to the Dominican Republic with my best friends at college since freshman year. We will all be graduating this coming year and going our separate ways com May 2012 and we want to get together and enjoy each others company…somewhere warm!
Hey Tim! I know, it’s not exactly across-the-globe travel, but right now I’m going through a huge transition from RI to MI, to move all by my lonesome. I’m 18, and I’m going there to establish in-state residency for future college at MSU (to be a Game Designer! :]), though I’m definitely going to travel a LOT before then, maybe even indefinitely if I can get my future Indie Game Company a-rolling! Thanks a lot for this opportunity, Tim!
You’re an inspiration to us all, for sure.
-Jason
I’d go to Brazil and train Brazilian Jiujitsu for at least a month (yeah, I know it will cost a lot more than $1,000 hehe).
The 2nd Season of Wonderful World of Beer (look at me getting ahead of myself we’re not even done with the first season!) is meant to be a European tour – that’s what we’d use the voucher for! BEER ME!
I would road trip across the states. Do some hiking and get some good eats.
If I win, my family and I will take a trip to New Zealand. My kids and I have never been out of the U.S., but we’ve always wanted to go there. We may stay there for good, if we can find a way. Either that, or Disneyland. The words “New Zealand” and “Disneyland” sound the same to my 5-year-old.
If I win, I think I’ll go to the Pacific Northwest. I’ve always wanted to check out Washington State and Vancouver…
If I win this I will do something like volunteer at conservation patagonia, work in refugee camps in Africa,or go skateboarding in Barcelona. Alright the last one now seems ridiculous compared to the other ones, so I guess Im stuck with the former (I do love skateboarding though… 🙂 Sure overseas will cost a little bit more, but hell, for $1,000 dollars off I pitch the extra for an unbelievable experience.
Los Andes, Chile. Explore the Andes and do humanitarian aid work in nearby communities.
I’d love to go to Costa Rica 🙂
I would go to different areas of Africa to make videos and take photos to use for awareness about the need for clean water. I would use the material for the movement/online business I have been working on thanks to the tips and inspiration from the 4HWW. Your awesome Tim. Thanks for doing what you do.
Kyle
I’d go to Spain, eat some 4hb approved food, and practice my spanish skills. 🙂
Go to Central America, visit rain forests and animal preserves, snorkel, kayak, hike, and learn Spanish. Immerse myself in a different culture.
only open to North America???
I would love to take my 2 sons to Italy to visit the glass blowers of Murano and of course enjoy the great food and relax.
I would take my family to Wingaersheek beach in Massachusetts to see cousins and an Aunt/Uncle I havent seen in 20 years.
I would also (more likely) fly my Aunt/Uncle down to be with my mom as she cares for my terminal stepfather.
Thailand for Rotary International conference in 2012
I’d take a trip to Thailand to lie on the most beautiful beaches in the world, eat amazing food, and train Muay Thai. I can’t think of a better trip than that.
I’d go to Cape Hatterus, North Carolina to learn kiteboarding.
Id go to Sao Paulo and eat Churrasco and Brazil nuts until my testosterone levels are off the charts. Then Id go to Rio and use that testosterone to bang the girl from Ipanema.
Then I would give her a 15 minute orgasm.
I’ll go to South America starting in Venezuela, and keep going for as long as I can!
If I win the Travelocity gift card I’d go to New York City because I’ve never been and I’ve been wanting to go for the longest time…
When I win I would love to take my husband and 2 year old son on a Caribbean beach vacation. I went to the post office today and picked up passport applications! Bon voyage! Leah
I would go to Chile, and work on a farm through http://www.wwoofchile.cl/ for four months or so, learning about the culture and maybe piano, always wanted to learn piano, I’ll find a piano teacher down there and make it happen. I’m continuing my journey.
Woohoo!! I’m soooooooo excited 🙂
Thanks Tim for the opportunity to win the scholarship.
Looking forward to the event in Napa–learning, fun, connections, expansion…
Thanks to everybody for all the <3
When I win I’m going to Argentina to see what all the fuss is about in Buenos Aires, starting playing guitar again, learn to tango, and then to Brazil to find my long lost great grandfathers family! And hopefully check out a few distilleries along the way, woohoo!
If I win I’m headed to India!
There are so many places I want to go. Can I post more than one comment?
One place I want to go is wales (my last name is Spencer. Although, I am far from royalty. My dad is a school custodian, and I’m certainly not rich). Then I’d go to Wolverhampton (near Birmingham) and visit my Grandpa.
Easy as pie: I’ll add some hard-earned bread of my own and fly to hong kong to get me some practice on the skills of Neil Strauss’ game.
Without a doubt I’d do Africa. I just always have thought it must be one of the most amazing and beautiful places in the world. I’d love to bring my camera, relax at a camp, take some amazing pictures and just learn from being in such a special place.
I’d go to Mt. Whitney CA and climb the summit
I’ll go to Palau — scuba dive in the ocean, snorkel with the jellyfish, kayak through the Rock Islands and learn about the culture!
Definitely I’d take off to Bali..
$1000 should be enough for at least the flight, lol.
Why Bali? Because there are beautiful beaches, culture & history, spirituality, and fantastic hotels / hospitality – most of the things that make a destination worth visiting at least once in your life 🙂
I would use the money to go to New Zealand to celebrate New Year’s in Gisborne!
Vietnam, baby. I cook for a living, and Vietnamese food is one of my passions. To see it firsthand would be incredible.
We’re going to Italy to eat gelato, and I’m going to zip around the streets of Rome on a Vespa.
When I win I will go to Australia and dive the Great Barrier Reef
I would travel to Norway and spend my time on an adventure to find my family’s ancestral homestead.
Im currently traveling the world for a year, Inspired by the 4 hour work week. Im in New Zealand and going to Australia next to dive the Great Barrier Reef, its always been a dream of mine. I would use the voucher to further expand my trip in China to learn a Martial Art at a Temple. After seeing Africa, Europe, and South East Asia I would like to learn Tai Chi from a Chinese Master at a Temple.
When I win I plan to hit up Japan for a week and visit family.
Keep the awesome contests coming! So much motivation…
I wouldn’t mind hitting India and working my way up into Nepal.
…and I’ll be heading to Peru to hike to Machu Picchu!!!
I will use the money towards travel to Thailand where I will spend time rock climbing at Koh Phi Phi, then traveling to Singapore
I’d go to Scotland, tour each scotch distillery, buy, and review the amazing scotches.
i would bring my girlfriend to your beloved argentina… to experience the contrasting winter of patagonia and summer of buenos aires (this is all relative to galway weather)… my reason? she doesn’t believe in a 4 hour work week… i hope to convince her 🙂
Awesome Tim, thanks for your continued commitment to sharing cool opportunities with your readers! Lately my whole life has changed and I’m no longer held back by some obstacles I had until now, and also recently I’ve been questioning a few times why I got started in my business in the first place. It’s time for a reset, and to reexamine my business and my commitment to the people I set out to help. I’ve been enjoying Krabi, Thailand, for the last 9 months but I’ve let myself slip quite a bit. I’d take the $1,000 to spend the next 3-6 months in Bali, find a nice quiet place tucked away somewhere with a little solitude, and work on centering back on my mission, getting my business back on track in the right direction, working on self improvement, and aligning once again with what I’m truly all about.
I will go to Finland and watch Aurora!!!! It’s on my 6 months dreamline and I’m working on it.
I would fulfill my wish and go to China to learn probably the most beautiful language in the world
(@Tim Why doesn’t a Facebook click get me +1 entry? It’s only Twitter based..)
Hi David, thanks for your feedback. This will be integrated soon, hang in there!
Congratulations to Sheila & Jacqueline!
If I won I’d probably have to pick destinations from a hat. 😀
I could drop into Tokyo and visit my brother from another mother who I haven’t seen since 2006 then hop over to Korea where I lived before and catch up with my amazing friends.
I could visit Austria where half of meine Familie ist in Wien. I haven’t seen them since I was seven. I can get to know them again and dig into my culture and family history.
Or I could tick a dream destination off my list like Tibet, Morocco or Tahiti.
Ah, what the hell – all of the above.
Alles Gute und Liebe Tim!
Thanks Natalie! Good luck getting to all of your dream destinations 🙂
If I win I will go to the island of Svalbard where I plan to go polar bear watching, explore glacial caves, check out the day-glow aurora borealis and kayak with Narwhals.
I would go to India to join my good friend and travel blogger Colin Wright of Exilelifestyle.com while he is living there, and hopefully use this as the starting point to travel full time. My father died 6 years ago, my grandmother died last spring and my grandfather died yesterday.Although I’m only 26 I’ve wanted to travel full time for a while now but have been “planning” to do it, after all this shit has happened to me… there is nothing left to do but to do it.
I’m hoping to find some money someplace by selling all of my stuff and doing freelance social media jobs on the side… any help with finances, including this free travel money would be aah-ma-zing!
Sob story over
I’d go on a week long cruise down the Mexican Rivera. Cruises are awesome, food, hotel & travel all rolled into one.
I will go to brazil, learn Portuguese while learning Capoeira and hopefully find a few beautiful women along the way…
I would take my soon to be wife (this Nov.) on a honeymoon to Northern Italy and drink the best Nebbiolo we can find with a “na zdrowie” to Tim… Thanks for the chance! Good luck everyone.
I would visit Knossos, Crete–visit the “palace” ruins.
I would take my wife and two daughters to Azores islands off Portugal. My wife has ancestry there and we’ve not yet explored there first hand.
Buenos Aires, Argentina. Was there for just a few days in 2006 and loved it. Would go back and re-learn Spanish, and travel throughout the country a la Tim.
Depending on the responses from each place I would go to Vietnam, Kazahkstan, Albania or Nigeria and use the trip not just for sightseeing but as a chance to further my approach and ideas for increasing cultural integration in international English based education. These are three areas where there is a strong focus in English language education but little to no attention given to the cultural gap leaving the students of their system culturally outside the western world despite their education. (While I’m overseas at the moment I’m still a US resident.) The other place I really want to go would be India – that would be more for fun and only a little bit of career development. Where ever it would be up I’d couchsurf my way across the country.
With the $1000 Voucher, I would plan to go to Japan with my wife to visit the natural hot springs and do a tour of the country.
I’dd go to SF and meet some cool people
I would love to take my wife to Switzerland to visit her grandparents!
I would go to New Zealand to go boar hunting
I’d go to Moscow, because it’s the most expensive city in the world and I don’t speak a word of Russian.
I’m going to Paris! And never coming back!!
For some reason, I’ve had a hankering to go to Brazil and hone my capoiera. Or perhaps Argentina and work on my tango and spanish.
Tim
I would like to offer 10 of your winners maxroam global sim cards for roaming with 100 euro credit on each
I am not sure how to contact you but your info says its best to leave a comment.

This will certainly expand my world and give me lots of learning opportunities.
Thanks.
Bert
Hi
I would take my children across Europe by train into Italy (I am from the UK!) and go visit Pompeii, Rome (again!) and the Amalfi coast. I would love to hire a boat as well and cruise round the coast – oh and learn how to handle the boat so I could go back and do it myself next time.
Oh – didint read the T&C’s – was just too damned excited. Now realise this is only open to you lucky guys in North America. Please feel free to follow my dream if you win though!!
I come from europe and I really want to travel to HAWAII!! I wanna go surfing.. Learn dancing as an tahitian girl with the hips etc.. And me as an photographer want to shoot really beautifull and good pictures.. At the end I will organise an exhibition of my traveling (when im back or let other people do that), doing some lextures and workshops and do some promoting for the sponsers!!
So if you pick me.. You will get definitly get something back for sur!! So I will not only take stuff but also bring stuff.. Since I’ve read your book great things are happening and I believe in doing what I like and making a living out of it.. For me it will be a mini retirement (photography, dancing, ejoying new experiences).
Pick me!
Love Michelle D
I’d go to China to meet my manufacturers in person and maybe stop by Thailand on the way home for fun 🙂
