Chris Sacca and Scott Glenn (#765)

This episode is a two-for-one, and that’s because the podcast recently hit its 10-year anniversary and passed one billion downloads. To celebrate, I’ve curated some of the best of the best—some of my favorites—from more than 700 episodes over the last decade. I could not be more excited.

The episode features segments from episode #79 “Chris Sacca on Being Different and Making Billions” and #729 “Legendary Actor Scott Glenn — How to Be Super Fit at 85, Lessons from Marlon Brando, How to Pursue Your Purpose, The Art of Serendipity, Stories of Gunslingers, and More.”

Please enjoy!

#765: Chris Sacca and Scott Glenn

This episode is brought to you by AG1! I get asked all the time, “If you could use only one supplement, what would it be?” My answer is usually AG1, my all-in-one nutritional insurance. I recommended it in The 4-Hour Body in 2010 and did not get paid to do so. And right now, when you first subscribe to AG1, you’ll get an AG1 Welcome Kit, a bottle of Vitamin D3+K2, a Morning Person hat, AND you’ll get to try each new flavor of AG1 and their new sleep supplement, AGZ. This episode is brought to you by Momentous high-quality creatine! I’ve long benefitted from creatine for athletic and gym performance, and now I’m increasing my daily intake to enjoy the cognitive benefits as well. A pilot study in Alzheimer’s patients demonstrated that supplementing can increase brain creatine levels in just 8 weeks, improving measures of memory, reasoning, and attention. And a double-blind, placebo-controlled study found that creatine can restore aspects of memory and attention within hours in adults who are sleep deprived. I use Momentous Creatine made with Creapure®, which is sourced from Germany and has the strictest lab standards to ensure it’s at least 99.9% pure. And try Momentous’s Creatine Chews—clean chewable tablets with 1 gram of Creapure® creatine per chew—and their whey protein isolate and magnesium threonate, all of which meet their same, exacting standards. Very nice, thank you.

Scott most likely misheard mr. Nureyev talking about his identity. Rudolf Nureyev was a Tatar, not Latvian for sure.

Dear Tim,

I don’t know you, and you certainly don’t know me.

But I listen to you a lot, and you talk a lot about wanting children, wanting a woman who has a career but who also wants children.

As a woman who has a child and a career, my question to you is what are you willing to give up for a child? You don’t ever talk about compromise, about you taking on the burden of raising a child.
You’re looking for a woman who’s willing to take a back seat on a well established career to have children, but are you willing to do the same?

Are you going to take a 50/50 split on the child care? Are you going to get up in the night & feed so she can sleep? Are you going to do the childcare so she can go back to work? Are you going to think about the logistics so there’s an even split on the physical requirements, but also the mental planning. Are you willing to give up your 1 month sabbaticals, your travels? Are you going to support her travels? Her sabbaticals? Her work abroad, so that you both can be you & parents?

For me, success in parenting has been down to me allowing my partner to be a primary caregiver, but also him taking that on board.

You can have a career & take care of a child as a woman, or you can do it as a partnership. Resentment breeds when roles dig in & expectations take hold.

The way you talk about finding someone, seems a lot about you and what you want, but nothing about what you’re willing to compromise on.

Coyote

A card game by Tim Ferriss and Exploding Kittens

COYOTE is an addictive card game of hilarity, high-fives, and havoc! Learn it in minutes, and each game lasts around 10 minutes.

For ages 10 and up (though I’ve seen six-year olds play) and three or more players, think of it as group rock, paper, scissors with many surprise twists, including the ability to sabotage other players. Viral videos of COYOTE have been watched more than 250 million times, and it’s just getting started.

Unleash your trickster spirit with a game that’s simple to learn, hard to master, and delightfully different every time you play. May the wit and wiles be with you!

Keep exploring.
