The New Book Unveiled: The 4-Hour Body (4HB)

Data crunching back to age 18. Three years of organizing self-experiments around the world. Thousands of blood tests and hundreds of case studies.

My new book is finally here: The 4-Hour Body.

I could not be happier with the end product. Truly, I am ecstatic.

If you want a minimalist guide to hacking the human body, this is it.

In each chapter (more than 50 topics total), I test everything on myself so you don’t have to. In “Reversing ‘Permanent’ Injuries,” for example, I tested the moderate options like over-the-counter supplementation and Feldenkrais, but I also imported stem-cell growth factors from Israel and had them injected. That was just for starters. The end result of that chapter? 90%+ of the injuries that plagued me for decades are now gone. I’m stronger and faster than I was at age 20.

If you want to know the two safe things out of 100 that worked abnormally well, I can tell you…

The 4-Hour Body is also designed to read unlike any diet or fitness book, which it isn’t. It’s more like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book for the human body, full of ridiculous stories, practical philosophies, and larger-than-life characters.

Here’s the back cover description:

THINNER, BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER… which 150 pages will you read?

Is it possible to:

Reach your genetic potential in 6 months?

Sleep 2 hours per day and perform better than on 8 hours?

Lose more fat than a marathoner by bingeing?

Indeed, and much more. This is not just another diet and fitness book.

The 4-Hour Body is the result of an obsessive quest, spanning more than a decade, to hack the human body. It contains the collective wisdom of hundreds of elite athletes, dozens of MDs, and thousands of hours of jaw-dropping personal experimentation. From Olympic training centers to black-market laboratories, from Silicon Valley to South Africa, Tim Ferriss, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The 4-Hour Workweek, fixated on one life-changing question:

For all things physical, what are the tiniest changes that produce the biggest results?

Thousands of tests later, this book contains the answers for both men and women.

From the gym to the bedroom, it’s all here, and it all works.

YOU WILL LEARN (in less than 30 minutes each):

– How to lose those last 5-10 pounds (or 100+ pounds) with odd combinations of food and safe chemical cocktails.

– How to prevent fat gain while bingeing (X-mas, holidays, weekends)

– How to increase fat-loss 300% using temperature manipulation

– How Tim gained 34 pounds of muscle in 28 days, without steroids, and in four hours of total gym time

– How to sleep 2 hours per day and feel fully rested

– How to produce 15-minute female orgasms

– How to triple testosterone and double sperm count

– How to go from running 5 kilometers to 50 kilometers in 12 weeks

– How to reverse permanent injuries

– How to add 150+ pounds to your lifts in 6 months

– How to pay for a beach vacation with one hospital visit

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There are more than 50 topics covered, all with real-world experiments, many including more than 200 test subjects.

You don’t need better genetics or more discipline. You need immediate results that compel you to continue.

That’s exactly what The 4-Hour Body delivers.

Now The Real Fun Begins

Here we go:

1) The ask

2) Big media opportunities for you

3) An offer to friends in media.

THE ASK:

I try not to ask for too much on this blog, but today I will ask a favor: if this book sounds interesting to you, please take a moment to order it today. I’ve never worked harder on something, it’s my sophomore act, and pre-orders are critically important in the publishing world.

The book is on-sale now but will ship on December 14th. Here’s why you should pre-order now:

– You will not be charged for the book(s) until they ship in December, but ordering (really like reserving) a copy now really, really helps me.

– What would make a better X-mas gift? My dad lost more than 70 pounds using two chapters. Please consider getting a few copies for your family, loved ones, or best friends. I promise that they will not be disappointed. Ordering now means you can’t forget.

– Last but not least, your help would mean the world to me. Pre-orders will largely determine how much support retailers give this book. It’s crazy, but only hardcover sales count towards the bestseller lists. If you’ve benefited from my last book or writing on this blog, I would really appreciate your help. This has been the biggest project of my life.

The 4-Hour Body is available on Amazon, BN.com, and these online retailers.

Thank you!

BIG MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES:

Have you lost weight, gained muscle, or otherwise changed your body as a result of blog posts I’ve written? If so, you could be featured on major TV and in big mainstream media. Please e-mail your details and (important, if you have them) pictures to jenny.rabun-at-gmail-dot-com. No professional before-and-after pics needed, but something that shows your before and after appearance, even in normal clothes, is helpful to producers.

Ladies — that means you, too! Help a brother out, and help your sisters out, by sharing your stories!

TO MEDIA, BLOGGERS, AND LIST OWNERS:

I’ve made very few media commitments thus far. Do you have a column, show, mailing list, or blog audience? Would you like to do a feature, an interview, or post an excerpt? Please click here to let me know. There is a ton of material, including case studies, video, and pictures.

Upward and Onward

Thank you all so much for the last three years. It’s been incredible.

The best is yet to come 🙂

  1. Hey Tim,

    Awesome to see this.

    A couple of questions:

    1) Can you get signed copies through Amazon?

    2) I like to order Kindle versions of books when I can (I think book form is silly these days — IMHO). What incentives, if any, are there to pre-ordering a Kindle/Nook/eReader version? (I’m preordering anyway, just curious)

    3) Does the Q&A apply for 5 e-versions, # of e-versions equivalent to 5 books, or none?

    Also, side-note:

Your “notify me” button at the bottom should be when somebody responds to your specific post, not whenever anybody adds a comment to this post. This way I will know if anybody (particularly, you) is (are) actually addressing my questions or not.

  2. Tim,

I noticed just now, after I ordered two signed copies of the book – the price just dropped on the signed copies by about 4 bucks a piece?

How do we know when the 3000 are gone? I might snag a few more at the lower price.

    Thanks

  3. I had a strange feeling something was going on in the world. So out of curiosity I figured I check on Tim Ferris. Sure enough PURPLE, ORANGE, hint of gray!! Got me one 🙂

  4. Hi Tim,

Just caught your tweet about your new book, just before going to bed (europe- time). So now 1 hour later, i am writing you that i ordered for the whole family and friends :-). I never ordered books that are not published. But considering i first read your book in english and not too long ago got the dutch version, to uinderstand your story and tips better. So I yes I am a fan. Hope to still be one when those books arrive in December, it better be 😉 . I am confident you have exceeded yourself. Congratulations on this tremendous work. It must have been thrilling for you to write this blogpost about having a new book. A toast to the four hour Body and new knowledge and a slim and more healthy body.

    Kind regards,

    Danielle

A tip, i needed to fill in telephone nr, and as i am in Holland i had to fake a number otherwise i could not send the form out.

  5. Thanks for another awesome book! I lost around 10 pounds in only 4 days on your diet, and I’m not super fat or anything, either. Unfortunately I had to quit the diet because of monetary concerns, but hopefully I can get back on it and get off this cheap garbage soon!

I’d been wanting to go paleo before I read your post, so that was the catalyst for me! Good luck with the pre-orders.

  6. Congratulations on your new book. Your article/review of Vibram FiveFingers is what prompted me to give them a shot and that really did change my life as well as the lives of many others via the so-on-and-so-on stage. I’ve been looking forward to see what you’ll share with us next. Five copies have been ordered and I’ll probably be back for more. Best wishes.

  7. Looks solid Tim.

And btw, if you didn’t have every girl within a 200 mile radius chasing you around already, I’m betting this book seals the deal.

Good luck man, you’re gonna need it 😉

    -Anthony

  8. OMG I absolutely cannot wait! Pre-ordered two, not even sure what on earth I’ll do with copy 2. From the line of thinking that created the 4-hour Work Week, Tim, I always felt like you’re my long lost twin brother I’ve never met — except with an IQ about 30 points higher =)

I’m guessing you will promote HIT-style workouts in the book, something I already do, along with an assortment of all the other things completely rational and that make perfect sense but which most people have never heard of! (I’m guessing most will be new to me.)

  9. Hey TIm,

In this book do you go into more detail about how to cut weight quickly (example 48 hours before a weight in). I know you have the blog post already, but, I’m after some more hints and tips for this.

    Cheers!

  10. Tim, do you have a blog or website for the new book? I tried looking for one and it only led me to a domain squatter’s webpage. Looks like they grabbed all variations of the Four Hour Body already. :p

    1. Hey Tim! Great book!! In 4 days I’ve lost 6lbs!!! Amazing! However, my husband and I are trying to get pregnant. Is this safe to continue eating this way if I become pregnant? I did read don’t take PAGG. I’m just wondering bc I keep loosing weight and want to know how being pregnant would affect this weight loss while I should be gaining weight with a pregnancy. Is it listed in the book? I can’t find it.

      Thanks!

  11. This is great! I like the branding going on here, lots of potental for more “4-hour” products down the line…like 4-hour energy!!!!!!!

  12. 5 books pre-ordered…that takes care of 4 Christmas gifts for friends. Tim, you should have a lot of new fans after the holidays.

  13. Just ordered my advanced copy… an experimentalist myself, i’m pretty excited for it…

also, submitted a request for an interview when the book comes out.. would love to discuss it on my site.

    thanks!

  14. C’mon Tim. Why no ebook version. I have two Kindles and an Ipad and I don’t think I will ever buy a standard book again. The last 114 books I have bought have all been ebooks.

  15. Hey Tim,

I’m stoked about the new book. This is a serious question btw.

Have you explored any form of male organ enlargement during your physical experiments? I know a lot of so-called experts dismiss it as a crock but I haven’t seen any real long-term studies on it. Is this explored in your book at all?

I have seen some underground online communities/forums that explore it as seriously as some of the pickup artist guys do dating, so I think there may be something there. Google “bib hanger forum” and see for yourself if you haven’t already.

Although I’m sure a lot of people will dismiss this as the proverbial b.s., there are a lot of guys who would love to see something like this thoroughly tested and presented to the mainstream by an authority such as yourself. Aside from the obvious size enhancement, there are also reported added sexual benefits such as improvement or the cure of erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. Not to mention just better overall sexual health.

I know as an avid follower of your blog that you pull no punches and are very straightforward when it comes to helpful information (especially in the sexual and physical arenas). I’d love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments.

    Thanks

  16. Awesome!

Back in 2007, the 4HWW changed my life with respect to work/business/education/etc. (not to mention the many friends I’ve forced to read it over the years). Your blog has continually been an inspiration and now I’m looking forward to doing more ‘hacking’ with my body. So stoked!

    5 copies pre-ordered!

  17. The Kindle version is available for preorder on Amazon now. I don’t think the NYT’s list takes digital sales into account, though. Sorry Tim.

Can’t wait to read this. That said, I’m not thrilled with the title or cover. I understand why you wanted to continue with the successful 4-Hour theme. What happened to “Becoming Superhuman”?

    1. Hey Ty,

Lots of reasons for the title and the cover. I’ll be doing a behind-the-scenes look at the process once the book is out. Had to make some political compromises on the superficial stuff (cover, etc.), but the content was 100% me.

      Best,

      Tim

  18. Looks great Tim, congrats! One Kindle edition pre-ordered, hope that helps.

Pity I can’t get a signed Kindle edition – maybe you can mail me a picture of a dedication? 😉

  19. Congrats on getting it out! You just got an order of 5 signed books from me and I can’t wait to read my copy. It’s the least I can do to give back for all of the usual knowledge you’ve shared through the 4HWW and this blog. I’m sure there is still much more to learn from you and your experiments!

If I ever meet you in person I’ll be sure to thank you again and buy you a drink.

    Cheers!

  20. Congratulations on the book Tim! It must have been hard keeping so many of the details of the book in the dark until now. I pre-ordered from amazon because I have Prime, hopefully that doesn’t negatively effect you too bad bypassing B&N.

  21. Imagine the online following you will have after this is released? Madness. You won’t need any advertising for your “Junior” book, just a quick “go buy my new book, bitch” on twitter and the New York Times will have a new #1.

Would be an awesome case study.

  22. I’m backpacking around Southeast Asia, currently chilling in Cambodia for about $6 a day, my flight back to the States is on December 14th. Could it be fate? Two signed copies ordered. I was planning on putting your Workweek advice into action when I returned. Now I can become superhuman too! Very excited Tim. 2011 is going to be a very good year for us all!

    Peace,

    Collin

    1. Signed every last one. I can’t understand how authors can live with themselves if they outsource signatures. Totally not cool. I actually made a meditation of sorts out of it and did about 100 at a time, chipping away at odd moments. Strangely, it was kind of fun.

      Tim

  23. Sweet dude

What’s the go with ordering for kindle, still going to be released in dec like the hardback?

The reason I ask is that I’m in Australia and amazon and B&N book orders can take weeks to get here, particularly at xmas and don’t want to wait another few weeks after ordering!

  24. Ordered! Can’t wait for this one!

Just wondering if you got anything worked out in regards to a 15 minute “O” for us guys? Haha can you imagine?

Oh, and Tim, if you could simply put “signature #0001” next to your signature that would be great.

  25. Hey Tim,

Congrats on the new book. Considering I have the original, audio, and updated versions of 4HWW, ordering 5 copies of this version seemed the next logical step. Hopefully I can put it to good use and have something to contribute to the revised version in a couple years like I did with 4HWW. Thanks for including my story. (see p 173).

  26. Tim: Couldn’t you wait a little longer to tell us about it? I have been obsessing about your book for too long now and I was almost cured!

I am part of your 5,000 true fans so off I go to B&N.

Will you cover anything on the Paleo diet?

    Ah!, congratulations on the book.

  27. I was going to wait for a Kindle edition, but wanting to give back for all the great content you put out for free on your blog, I just picked up two.

Also, I’d gladly trade back the signed editions to give to other fans for two unsigned books and your promise that I’ll never have to see another picture or video of you wearing Vibrams ever again.

    1. Hey,

What’s the scoop on Kindle vs. Hard copy and how that affects the author’s take home?

Nate’s post sparked a thought……kindle prices are almost always 1/3 or so of full retail (who actually pays full retail other than in airports these days?)

perhaps the kindle affect only impacts the publisher?

Maybe $9.99(typical kindle book price) is a sum of all the margin made along the way by amazon, the publisher, and the author……?

Would be interested to know your thoughts on this Tim…..as you are always very willing to share insights into profits, structures, and who all has “fingers in the pie”

  28. I feel there will be many eBay auctions 😉 Congrats Tim!!! I’ve been waiting for this book… ever since you mentioned about it. And just in time for Christmas! Preorder is in 😉

  29. Hello Tim,

I just ordered 2 signed copies ($31.06 what a deal!) of the hardback because I love your writing style and I am not cheap.

I never wrote or commented before because it is a dumb/pointless way to communicate so this is probably it. The Elizabeth Gilbert TED talk was great. I don’t expect impossible things of artists, so I will still like your work if your book flops.

I look forward to watching it selling millions and opening doors for your future success.

I am excited that you are excited so stay happy.

    In thoughts,

    JoeM

P.S. Are you able to comment as to Ray Porter doing the narration of this book too? I can’t find a thing about this no matter how many different phrasings I put into Google – he is the man.

  30. What is your definition of bingeing? Could be heavily mis-interpreted by ill-minded dieters, do you discuss eating disorders like bulimia in this book? Other than that sounds like a great new interesting read.

  31. If anyone can drop the pre-order link to Amazon that would be awesome as I have a Prime account. I can’t seem to find anything but the CD on there. Thx.

  32. Tim!

I’m having trouble convincing people that this is anything but a scam. They keep saying that it’s against modern scientific research. What can I do? ><

    1. Hi Howard,

I suppose they’ll have to wait for the book. Rest assured, there are plenty of studies. 500+ references, if I’m not mistaken. In the meantime, you can ask them to point you to the “scientific research” they cite. I’ll be debunking a lot of that stuff. There is good science out there, but there is much more bad science.

      All the best,

      Tim

  33. It’s so nice to finally know the name of the book. I used your body building suggestions with significant success this summer (although I added far fewer pounds of muscle than you did, must be the lack of No-Xplode).

I was wondering if the book had any suggestions on how to stay the same. I know many people are looking to bulk up or cut weight, but I’ve hit the Greek ideal proportions as determined by my wrist size and would rather remain the same size and shape.

I also wondered if there were any suggestions for people who play sports that favor one side of the body such as fencing or squash. I haven’t been disciplined enough with these to become imbalanced but I’m sure that’s not something to look forward to.

I know I could wait until December, but I might be in Israel (preordered to Pittsburgh) and you’ve piqued my interest.

    Thanks

(I’m in for two by the way)

  34. Ordered! …and congratulations!

Can’t wait for the book. To date, CrossFit has helped me with muscle building more than any other program, but I REALLY look forward to putting your 28 day experiment to the test.

Brilliant marketing as always – that back cover copy is awesome! Who is your copywriter? Actually, I guess you are, right? I need to apply more of your ‘how to write headlines to get attention’ and use them all in a row like that. Great job!

  35. Goodness, SO excited about this!! I have been waiting for months and months for this book to come out! Unfortunately I have to wait two more months. But hey, I pre-ordered two copies. One for me, one for my brother. I really think he’ll enjoy it even though he’s not a huge book reader.

Thank you so much for writing this!

Still working on my business(es) to automate, but hey, at age 18, I think I’m doing all right. I don’t know any other teenagers who have their own business and ideas for a few others.

  36. Done – 2 books ordered, one for me, one for hubbie. Gutted it won’t be here in time for Xmas as we are in NZ and delivery will take at least 7 working days, but its the hubbies post Xmas belly for which the book will probably be the most use!

Equally – I’m due mid Jan, so hopefully will be able to put the info in the book to use to get pre baby body back ASAP.

Just curious, did you yourself experiment with polyphasic/uberman schedules yourself? Do you still?

Looking forward to end of Dec! Congrats Tim.

  37. Ordered. By the time B&N added shipping & tax I was better off with AMZN.

Looking forward to the book–altho it looks like a lot of your blog posts.

  38. The 4HWW has helped me so much that anything you put out, I’ll buy (as if you don’t already have 1000 true fans already). I have to wait for the Kindle edition though, since I’m all over the map these days and need to travel light.

  39. Hey Tim

Congratulations on your new book. I can’t wait to read it. I’ve been getting so juiced up reading all your diet posts. And now I’m looking forward to reading about how you reversed your “permanent” injuries. Having reversed a few permanent injuries and chronic diseases myself, I find this topic particularly interesting.

Best of luck for another #1 best seller.

  40. 4HWW = your best lifestyle, 4HB = your best body, now we just need a 4H what to do after we all turn 45 and have to settle down. 4H car pool? You know you’ll be hacking that shit!

Great stuff, got me and mine a copy. My advent calendar just got about 7 weeks longer.
