You mentioned in a previous post you may think of methods to apply 4HWW ideas to craftsmen like musicians, potters, massage therapists… please still consider that topic for a future post. I’m in those categories and would appreciate all insights. I made one large change recently: I found an artist manager to work with me. Negotiations, administration, scheduling is taken care of.
Is there any chance you are going to make it across the ditch to NZ whilst in the southern hemisphere?

Great points! I especially like when you point out email should not be treated the same as IM. This is a problem I have run into in the past, along with the sender of the email being personally offended because I did not instantaneously supply a response.
Through implementation of several of your suggestions as well as clear, concise communication I have virtually eliminated those issues.

I’ve been busy but just automated a new venture in the last few days which has freed up alot more time and loving the passive income. Don’t think I would have ever thought of it without your advice 🙂
Aus will be kick ass dude but you gotta get them to change that disgusting book cover and fire whoever designed that so that you can focus on the surfing.. that cover doesn’t even make sense and the guy with the balloons as colourful as they may be make the 4HWW look like a fiction novel about a trip to the amusement park.
Loved the elevator pitch tips btw in the other post – give me your thoughts on this? I want to really meet this person for over a year now. He wrote a book on getting rich, and is one of UK’s 100 richest dudes so not very accessible :p. I would cut off a leg to get the chance to learn a few things from him in person, and have some basic ideas of what he clicks on (writing poetry, even though he’s not very good at it…) If you were me – would you try to catch him live in person, perhaps when he’s speaking poetry (could be a waste of time / resources and still not get far), or to be more creative (write a fancy letter, or fly out to his island and risk going to jail? lol) 🙂 I have plenty of time these days, so could even maybe try to work in one of his companies for a month :p The outcome I’m hoping for is to see if he might be willing to mentor me a bit… but I feel like the value mismatch is so large it’s ridiculous (you were closer with WB for sure!)

Like the purple hair! That’s a Nice! (In Borat voice). Fun with dry ice. Mr Wizard did some cool stuff with it. You tube may have some vids. I also saw that you can blow a latex balloon up by itself. Place a small amount of dry ice inside a latex balloon and tie it securely. As the solid begins to turn into gas, the balloon will inflate by itself. Or a you can make a home made fire extinguisher. I’d say look that up.
I know what you do, you silly monkey. Book, book it see it and it is good! LOL You must know the art of the tease. 😉

I live near Melbourne. I’m a professional musician. You need to go to an AFL football game at the MCG. You need to go to the Ballarat Reptile Park (1&1/2 hr from Melbourne) if you want to touch and feel and feed Australian animals – and experience Australia’s drought (large empty lakes). There are many great hotels in the CBD of Melbourne. The Novetel on Swanston St. is good if you want something cliche. Up to 100 people, in the CBD? I’d say Zinc at Federation Square perhaps. Central and on the yarra river (near the MCG -walking distance). Hope to catch up – Al

Greetings from Down Under. I am pretty confident I was one of the first Aussies to read 4HWW. I heard about it pre-release and pre-ordered from Amazon. Read it in 24 hours and loved it.
Why was I so keen? Because your story totally resonated with me. Business owner, putting in long hours and ‘freakin out’. That was me. I immediately put your strategies into play with great results. Cut my office time dramatically overnight, delegated like crazy, implemented an info diet and stopped checking email like a maniac.
I started doing mini-retirements too. In the last year from my Aussie home base I have travelled to Queensland, Thailand, California, Colorado (one month skiing), and Sabah Malaysia. Next week I am off to a tropical island for a small break and later this year I have already planned trips to Queensland and Vietnam.
Yes I love the 4HWW way of life.
Most importantly I am a micro-brew fanatic. I highly recommend Redoak Brewery/Bar/Restaurant in Clarence St Sydney. Meet you there for a life-changing selection of award winning beers.

I appreciate living in the UK now – I felt I was hard done by traveling 250 miles to go to the London meet. Enjoyed watching the experiment Tim I believe the vibration comes from the coin causing the ice to sublime, meaning it momentarily rests on a layer of gas. It then falls through this layer and strikes the block causing the sound.
I’m another one up for a Sydney hangout whilst you’re in Oz.

Just a couple of suggestions in regards to Melbourne. If it’s just a straight talk, then some great places are Novotel and Sofitel in the city.
Transport is one of those bars that everyone seems to love and it has a great laid back atmosphere and fantastic views of the Yarra River. It could fit 100 people but is definitely first and foremost a lounge for people to mingle.

With respect to watering holes in Sydney, I’d suggest that you first decide on a general location. From there, a venue will probably work itself out. Sydney’s a big town, so assuming you don’t have a lot of time to see the place then I’d consider an option along these lines:
a) touristy — Bondi, The Rocks or King’s Cross
b) groovedoggin’ — Darlinghurst, Oxford Street or Surrey Hills
c) a bit more classy — The City / North Shore
Knowing you only from the book, I’m guessing that Bondi is more your go: lots of fit young people from all over the world hanging near an iconic beach. If you were more interested in getting a sense of ‘historical’ Sydney then some of the pubs hidden away up the back of The Rocks would do the job nicely. The city or the north shore are perhaps best if you’re coming straight out of a nearby event (eg book signing). And if you wanted to get a look at what’s stylin’ Down Under then Darlo / Oxford Street / Surrey Hills would be the places to see.
Obviously you can move from one to the next, but it’ll be a trick getting ninety-nine new friends into your taxi.
And whatever you do, don’t let anyone talk you into visiting Canberra unless it’s for business. 😉

Yummy, healthy (unpasteurized) stuff! Canned/bottled beers are required to be pasteurized by law in the US, RedOak refuses to can or bottle because it comprimises the purity of the beer. You know how good fermented foods and drinks are for you…saving you a spot at my favorite restaurant that serves Red Oak here in Raleigh! 🙂

Dear Tim,
I was strolling through the local library today when I came across your book. Later on this evening I read 103 pages of it. After reading those pages the thought occured to me that this books appears to be beneficial for the office worker. I am a full time college student, a single mother, and I work as a part time tutor, robbing peter to pay paul. I undersand that I have not read the entire book, but couldn’t help wondering if your book will really help someone like me. I have never run a business nor do I have the credit or resources to do so. A lot of the tehniques described in your book I aready do. For example I cut out the media in my life a long time ago and I typically delete most of my emails before they are even opened. Time management is not actually my issue…its more about obtaining the resources to actually live without financial worry in order to better focus on what is most important in my life. I hope to hear from you soon.

I read your book around this time last year, right after I graduated Uni, and it really changed the direction of my future. I was being clawed into corporate suit life (which after spending the year traveling, and at heart being a writer, seemed unrealistic and mentally impossible), reading 4hww opened my eyes and helped me disregard all the people saying “back to reality…time to work your way up the corporate ladder”, and instead get to where I want to be.

Do you believe that there is an amount of time you should be employed before approaching your boss with the idea of a remote work agreement?

AMAZING STUFF, already recommended it to friends, find it very unique compare to other books. applied speed reading straight away and GOLLY, finished the book less than 3 hours. so many tools and ideas in there, just don’t know where to start. working full time, started a business. excuses creeps in from time to time…like Susette, i want to be wealthy with no finiacial limitation, for me to pursue my dreams in the performing arts industry. With the business i have, biggest issue is marketing it. now that there’re so many internet software that ‘promised’ high traffic..etc..etc..what’s your view on that? how do you market in this internet thriving days when my internet knowledge is relatively ok? any recommendation? before i forget, let me know when and where is the meet up place in melbourne.

I loved the experiments with the dry ice 🙂 Apparently dry ice can also be used to make a dry ice bomb, by sealing the dry ice in a bottle of some sort, but it’s very dangerous and even illegal in some parts of the world, so I wouldn’t recommend you try it 🙂

Hey mate, just wanted to thank you for the support your book gave in changing my lifestyle. Here’s what I have managed to do in 8 months.
Since reading your book I gave my IT career (which I hated) the flick, and have worked entirely from home. It’s allowed me to focus on building my online art print business.
Paying the bills in the meantime with some rather shitty work (telephone fundraising etc). But sure enough, I am about to clinch a couple of national distribution deals with my business. Very pleased about that.
Once this happens I will employ someone to fill the orders, trade futures full time… and be 100% mobile.
A couple of things that nag me though.. the idea of outsourcing everything overseas, is unworkable on a larger scale. I believe we should try and keep it local.. it is kinda imperialistic to go around being a bigshot while Your Man in India does your hard work.
Also the bit in the book where cheated your way into 1st place in the kickboxing — man, that was not a cool move. You lost a lot of readers by admitting that.
Just had to balance praise with criticism dude! But I like what you’re doing.

Congrats on all! For the kickboxing, I know a lot of people have taken this as I did not mean to write it. I didn’t break a single rule, rather I learned how to magnify my strengths within the rules, so I don’t view this as cheating. The high jump as you see it now was once “cheating” — i.e., the man who did the first back arch vs. hurdle-like form was labeled a cheater and now it’s the norm. I think that optimizing your performance within rules is the key to better competing, but I understand that not everyone reads my story that way.

In regards to your dry ice video, this appears to be some form of the leidenfrost effect hXXp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leidenfrost_effect –
In short, it’s similar to the way water beads up on a hot skillet by floating on vapors.
In this case, the vibration seems to be occuring because of gas escaping by way of temperature exchange. The coin heats up the dry ice creating CO2 (gas). The gas expands and escapes from behind the coin pushing the opposite side of the coin against the other wall of the CO2(solid). Rinse and repeat until the coin has cooled.
The leidenfrost effect has also been suggested as the way firewalkers walk on hot coals.
I’m not a physicist, but my science teacher showed us a video in 8th grade illustrating this concept. Hope this lends a little clarity to the vibrating coin puzzle.

Yes I was going to comment on the dry ice bomb, but wanted to make sure no one wrote about it yet. You referenced it, but I wanted to explain it in detail in the hopes that, since people are going to try it regardless of if they know how, at least they will know what’s going to happen, haha.
NOTE TO TIM: If you think this is stupid, I’m fine with you vetoing this comment, but I figured an educated person trying this was better than an uneducated one.
Like Jason said, it can be dangerous!! So, if you just can’t get over the urge to see it in person and try one, first make sure you are OUTSIDE, and in a very open area with no other people, animals, or anything else of value nearby.
Chop up some dry ice so that it is in small enough pieces to fit through the opening of a 2 liter bottle. Take the 2 liter bottle, and fill it a little over half, to 2/3 full of warm water. Do not use hot water, since that will make it pressurize too fast! You’ll get the same affect with warm water anyway. You take the funnel and place it in the bottle. Pour only about 1/4 cup dry ice in the funnel, and as soon as it is all in the bottle, seal it with the cap as fast as you can, and throw it as far away from you as you can, without throwing it high in the air, so it doesn’t hit the ground hard.
Wait 10 seconds or less, and it will build up enough pressure to blow the bottle open 🙂
Oh, and if this is illegal in North Dakota, then no I have never tried this 😀
